Food & Cash Assistance
Caseworkers determine eligibility and process applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Ohio Works First (OWF) cash assistance, and Medicaid. Applications may be completed in person at the Main St. office or by mail; applicants should bring identification, proof of income, and household expense documentation to avoid delays in processing. State law generally requires SNAP eligibility determinations within 30 days of a completed application.
Medicaid
This office accepts and processes Medicaid applications for county residents, including aged, blind, and disabled categories, and assists with redeterminations and reported changes in household circumstances. Residents already enrolled should report address or income changes promptly to avoid a lapse in coverage.
Child Support Enforcement
The Child Support Enforcement Agency (CSEA) division establishes paternity and support orders, processes income withholding, and enforces existing orders through the courts. Parents may open a case, make a payment, or ask about an existing order’s status by contacting the CSEA unit directly during business hours.
Children Services
The Children Services division investigates reports of child abuse and neglect, provides family preservation and reunification services, and oversees foster care and kinship placements for children in county custody. Ohio law requires certain professionals to report suspected abuse or neglect; reports may be made to this office during business hours or to local law enforcement after hours.
Home Energy Assistance (HEAP)
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps income-eligible households with home heating costs and past-due utility balances. HEAP applications are generally accepted from November through April each program year; the Winter Crisis Program component provides emergency assistance to households facing disconnection. Applicants should bring recent utility bills and income verification for all household members.
Workforce Development
The OhioMeansJobs Clairmont County center, co-located with this office, provides job search assistance, resume help, and referrals to training programs for job seekers, along with a public computer lab available during office hours. Employers may also list job openings through the center.
